I worked on the original development of this arena in the mid 90’s and added this corner to the building in 2008. One dollar beer night was causing a serious congestion issue at the north east corner of the concourse and the only solution was to add onto the corner. We estimated this addition to be a $1.5 million dollar project and had a low bid of less than half our estimated cost. For multiple reasons we had to take the low bid and surprisingly, the local contractor did a great job with very few change orders.

This 12,000 seat multi use arena helped the rebirth of economic development in this area of Grand Rapids. The Red Wings AHL affiliate team, the Griffins, use the arena as their home ice.
